The small Omid communications satellite was launched Monday evening aboard a Safir 2 rocket, the Fars news agency reported.
Two objects from the launch, likely the Omid satellite and part of its booster, are circling Earth in oval-shaped orbits.
The orbits range in altitude from low points of 153 miles to high points of 235 miles and 273 miles. The orbital inclination is 55.5 degrees, according to U.S. military tracking data.
Omid, which means hope in Persian, carries experimental control systems, communications equipment, and a small remote sensing payload, Iranian news reports said.
Previous versions of the Safir rocket have completed several suborbital tests, including a mysterious flight last August that some believe may have been a failed satellite launch attempt.
Iranian news reports in August reported the Safir had successfully reached orbit, but Western intelligence officials said the rocket suffered a dramatic failure during the launch.
Iran plans several more satellites over the next few years to bolster disaster management programs and strengthen communications networks inside the country.

I have received a lot of angry e-mails and notes from Iranians and IRI friendly arabs blaming for being an Israeli stooge for what I wrote in this article.
Well, if they were not dumb to see when this article was dated and why I was questioning the stupidity of the IRI thugs and their claims, then I have nothing to tell them.
Sure IRI has done a giant leap into placing this satellite into orbit, but that does not mean that as an Iranian I am proud of their achievement. What the IRGC and their criminal gang are doing are in the interest of Iranian people, even thought some people are easily fooled to see this as a mater of national pride, I see this just another step in the IRI’s propaganda to act as if they are doing everything in the interest of the nation and not to their pathetic survival to be able to keep their criminal grip over Iran and it’s people.
I am not pro-Israeli or pro-American, anyone who ever watched my posts can see that, and it makes ma laugh that these dumb-ass IRI lovers call me for and Israeli stooge.
Uppdate 5, video from IRI with some info about the satellite. Here they claim it is 25kg and based on the 3d graphics, the rocket is a 2 stage rocket that is able to send the satellite to the 15km orbit of the earth.

It seems like IRI managed to get their problems solved and sent a sattelite to the orbit. I still have no information about the size and the weight of the unit and will update this as soon as I have more data about it.
It seems like the reason behind the discrepancy between the Farsi and the English version of the IRNA was the fact that the rocket actually did not manage to send the satellite into the earth orbit. Judging by the look of the rocket this would definitely fall apart if it reaches the high speed necessary to put a satellite into the orbit, with such crappy aerodynamic design, the rocket will start vibrating, shaking or finally falling apart.

What makes me really amazed is the shitty paint job on the head of this rocket. I am not rocket scientist, but I had studied aerodynamics and the physics robots (as a hobby) and one of the major factors in the design of a rocket is the “air resistance” of the design. This so called sophisticated design is like a teen-age design who uses sand to make a cast for the head of the rocket.
I am sorry folks, but this is not the way a professional rocket scientist designs a rocket that will be used to send a satellite into the orbit. This is just another example of the stupidity of the IRGC ‘engineers’ who can not even make a clean shape head for their ’sophisticated’ home-designed rocket. It reminds me of an old Iranian proverb “Az Khalaa haman borun taravad ke dar oost” (ask someone to translate it for you if you want to know the meaning of this
Maybe when I have some time over, I do a calculation on this because I really don’t thing this cansend anything in the orbit, but for now I will give it to the visitors to decide if they see this as an advance design that can reach the sky or just a childish design based on 1950s technology North Korean missiles like SCUD-B?

It seems that the US/Israeli sources are using this as the proof that Iran is building a ballistic multi-stage missile.
I have got some more pictures of the rocket and will put it here when I get home later this afternoon with some personal comments about the design of this rocket and why I believe it is more propaganda than real.
I just read the news about the successful launch of an Iranian satellite (Omid, meaning hope) by a home made “satellite-launcher missile” with the name Safir (Ambassador).
The IRNA broadcast as it is shown here is a bit difficult to understand:
Iran-Satellite-Ministry Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics said Friday that in presence of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iran’s `Safir’ (Messenger) satellite-carrier rocket, carrying Iran’s first `Omid’ (Hope) Satellite, was successfully launched into the space tentatively on Sunday.
The Ministry statement, a copy of which was made available to IRNA on Sunday, said the launch thus paved the way for placing the first Iranian satellite in orbit.
It said the rocket had been built by Iranian experts and fired tentatively on the auspicious birthday anniversary of Hazrat Mahdi (May God Hasten His Reappearance).
Ok, if the first part of the broadcast is correct, it means that the satellite was successfully launched and sent into orbit, but then the second paragraph has something that bothers me, it says “the launch thus paved the way for placing the first Iranian satellite in orbit“, wait a minute, didn’t they say in the previous paragraph that the satellite WAS launched successfully? So what is the pave the way for placing the first Iranian satellite means?
Looking at the Farsi section of IRNA the news was a bit different:
این پرتاب آزمایشی در شب ولادت با سعادت حضرت ولیعصر(عج) و به دست متخصصان افتخارآفرین ایران اسلامی صورت گرفت و راه را برای نشاندن ماهواره در مدار کره زمین هموار ساخت. بر اساس این گزارش، این آزمایش با هدف صحه گذاری بر عملکرد ماهواره بر، سیستم داده پردازی از راه دور، دستگاه مرکزی زمینی، ایستگاه های زمینی تله متری، فرمان از راه دور و تعیین موقعیت ماهواره صورت گرفت و توانست به همه اهداف از پیش تعیین شده دست یابد. در این آزمایش موفقیت آمیز زیرساخت های ارتباطی گسترده زمینی به نحو کاملی از این پرتاب آزمایشی پشتیبانی کردند.

The Farsi text, says that the launch was a test and not a real one, and it indicates that the test-run of this launch was to verify the following : launch of the satellite carrying missile, remote computer system, base control, base telemetric communication, remote control and positioning of the missile that were all successful and they reached all the pre-defined goals.
But, there is no mention of the satellite being launched at this stage, so where does the English version of the IRNA got this idea from?
Are they trying to exaggerate something here and pretend that they actually launched a satellite into orbit?

به گزارش سایت پایداری به نقل از حیات، سخنگوی وزارت دفاع امریکا با اظهار اینکه واشنگتن از این گام موفقیت آمیز ایران احساس نگرانی می کند، افزود: ایران در جریان پرتاب ماهواره از تکنولوژی استفاده کرده که به ساخت موشک دور برد نیز خواهد انجامید.
از سوی دیگر برخی از کشورهای اروپایی و کشورهای عضو سازمان پیمان آتلانتیک شمالی (ناتو) از این اقدام ایران در پرتاب موفقیت آمیز موشک نیز اظهار نگرانی کردند.
بیل رامیل وزیر دولت انگلیس در امور خارجه گفت: پرتاب ماهواره به فضا در راستای مساله هسته ای ایران باعث نگرانی شدید ما شده است.
از سوی دیگر فرانک والتر اشتاین مایر وزیر امورخارجه آلمان در این مورد گفت: پرتاب ماهواره ایرانی باعث ایجاد نگرانی در ما شده است.
منوچهر متکی وزیر امور خارجه ایران روز گذشته در کنفرانس خبری در افریقا بر صلح آمیز بودن فعالیت ماهواری ای ایران تاکید کرد.

ماهوارهی امید در هوا نومیدی در زمین
پرتاب اولین ماهوارهی ایرانی به فضا و قرار گرفتن آن در مدار زمین خبری بود که هر لحظه به گوش میخورَد و برنامههای متعدد تلویزیونی سخن از آن میگویند و چندین روز روزنامهها از موفقیت دانشمندان ایرانی و دستیابی به فضا مقالات نوشتند و مینویسند.
البته خبر پرتاب ماهواره به فضا واکنشها و نظرات متفاوتی را در بر داشته است. در داخل کشور که مسئولین بهم تبریک و تهنیت گفته و گوش فلک را از این موفقیت کر کردهاند و در خارج از کشور نیز واکنشهای متفاوتی از این خبر مشاهد کردیم. در بعضی از موارد به تحسین ایران پرداخته و این اتفاق را برای ایران موفقیتی بزرگ نامیدند و در بعضی موارد نیز این ماهواره را در جهت جنگ و ماجراجوی ایران قلمداد کردند.
ولی چیزی که بیشتر به چشم خورد بازتاب این خبر در بین عموم مردم کشور بود. هیچکدام از این خبر خوشحال یا شاد نبودند و علیرغم گستردهگی پخش خبر مردم چندان راغب به صحبت درباره این خبر نبودند و این نشان دهنده این مسئله است که ملت از دولت و حاکمان خود ناراضیند و این گونه خبرها نه تنها برایشان جذاب نیست و حتی به آن بصورت شک و تردید مینگرند و باور ندارند که این ماهواره که ادعای بومی بودن آنرا دارند واقعا بومی باشد. سئوالی که در این بین مطرح است که چرا هواپیماها در ایران قدیمیند و هر آن احتمال سقوط آن وجود دارد هواپیمای جدید نیست، اعلام میدارید که کشور در تحریم قرار دارد و تکنولوژی لازم را به ایران نمیفروشند و یا در دیگر موارد کم کاری خود تحریم را نشان دادهاید و مردم را به سکوت مجبور کردهاید حال چگونه به ساختن و پرتاب ماهواره اقدام کردهاید؟
کشور ما که از نظر کشاورزی دارای تمامی امکانات از قبیل زمین حاصلخیز، آب لازم و نیروی تحصیل کرده کشاورزی است چرا هنوز نتوانسته در قسمت کشاورزی به خودکفایی دست یابد؟ و هنوز در حال وارد کردن محصولات کشاورزی هستیم. یا در بخش صنعت خودرو سازی نتوانستیم پیکان را به صورت عالی تولید کنیم و آنرا به موزه فرستادیم تا تاریخی شود و خودرو ملی که هنوز قطعات آنرا از خارج از کشور وارد میکنیم و یا خودرو جدید مینیاتور که مشخص شد که طراحی و ساخت اکثر قطعات آن به متخصصان خارجی سفارش داده شد! حال باور کنیم که این ماهواره بومی و ساخت وطن است؟ احتمالا این ماهواره نیز بهره گرفته از تکنولوژیهای از رد خارج چین، روسیه یا کشوری مشابه اینان است که با هزینه هنگفت از جیب مردم ایران خریده شد و با مونتاژ آن در داخل میخواهند به خورد مردم ایران بدهند که در حال پیشرفتند.
بعد از به روی کار آمدن دولت نهم از بس که تولید و اختراع و نوآوری اعلام شده که دیگر برایمان هر یک ماه یک نوآوری جدید اعلام نشود شک خواهیم کرد و جالب اینکه چند روزی مانور روی آن داده میشود و بعد فراموش میشود و اگر دنبالش را بگیرید معلوم میشود که آنطور که در موردشان تبلیغ و تعریف میشود نبود و برای همین مردم کشور دیگر تمایلی به نوآوری و اختراع و اکتشاف ندارند.
روی سخنم با آنانی است که خود را خدمتگزار مردم میدانند بهتر نیست ابتدا زمین را آباد کنیم و بعدا دست به فضا برد و به فکر آباد کردن آن باشیم یا شماها عادت دارید زمین و زمان را باهم بهم بریزید؟ بهتر نبود به جای اینکه امید را به هوا بفرستید امید را به دلهای هزاران ایرانی ناامید میفرستادید؟
